About B.Sc. Medical Lab Technology

The Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology (B.Sc. MLT) at Sengunthar College of Allied Health Sciences is a three-year undergraduate degree that trains students to become skilled, analytical, and patient-focused laboratory professionals. Affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University (TNMGRMU) and approved by AICTE, this programme is among the most respected Allied Health Sciences degrees in Tamil Nadu.

The curriculum integrates rigorous theoretical training with hands-on laboratory practice and mandatory clinical internship rotations across affiliated teaching hospitals. Students develop deep expertise in clinical biochemistry, haematology, microbiology, histopathology, blood banking, and immunology — the core sciences that power accurate medical diagnosis.

Graduates of this programme have gone on to work in premier hospitals, national diagnostic chains, pharmaceutical laboratories, public health departments, and overseas healthcare systems. The course is structured to prepare students for immediate employment as well as higher studies such as M.Sc. MLT or MBA in Hospital Management.

Clinical Sample Analysis
Accurately collect, process, and analyse blood, urine, tissue, and body fluid samples using standard laboratory protocols.
Microbiology & Serology
Identify micro-organisms, perform culture sensitivities, and carry out serological tests for infectious disease diagnosis.
Haematology
Perform CBC, differential counts, coagulation studies and blood group typing using automated haematology analysers with precision.
Histopathology & Cytology
Prepare and examine tissue specimens, assist in biopsy processing, and identify pathological changes under microscopy.
Clinical Biochemistry
Estimate blood glucose, lipid profiles, liver and renal function tests using automated biochemistry analysers accurately.
Lab Safety & Quality
Apply biosafety protocols, biomedical waste management, and quality control per NABL and hospital accreditation standards.
Eligibility Criteria

Who Can Apply?

  • Must have passed Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects from a recognised board (CBSE, State Board, ICSE, etc.).
  • Minimum aggregate of 50% marks in PCB subjects (45% for SC/ST/MBC candidates as per Tamil Nadu norms).
  • Candidate must be at least 17 years of age as on 31st December of the year of admission. No upper age limit for working healthcare professionals.
  • Required documents: Mark Sheets (10th & 12th), Transfer Certificate, Community Certificate, Aadhar Card, and 6 passport-size photographs.
  • Admission is merit-based on qualifying examination performance followed by a counselling session with the admissions committee.
